I don't have a charity number - what should
I do?
We usually get round this by making a grant to a registered charity
in your area, who then passes the money directly on to your project.
If you can't find a suitable local charity, you can try your Parochial
Church Council, or a local Council for Voluntary Service who will probably
accept a cheque on your behalf.
The reference section of your local library or the Citizens' Advice
Bureau will help you find the name of the person to contact.
What sort of projects don't you support?
We don't support large capital expenditure projects, such as buying
minibuses, building, repairing or restoring buildings, or providing
sports facilities.
We don't give grants to individuals for their personal development
or to help fund overseas voluntary work such as Raleigh International
or Project Trust.
We do not give grants to cover staff salaries or fund academic research
posts.
We do acknowledge the vital importance of these activities, but we
think our limited resources can be used more effectively by local, start-up,
voluntary action groups, or by supporting demonstration teaching projects
under some very exceptional circumstances.
Do you give money to overseas projects?
Very occasionally, yes.
If the project has a partner in the UK (such as one of the big charities
like Action Aid or Oxfam, or perhaps a twinning relationship between
an African parish and a British parish church) and we can be sure that
our grant will be used as intended, we can support overseas projects
which are in line with the Purposes of the
Trust.
We have to make our grant cheque out to a UK charity (see
Why do I need a charity number?), so if you are not a charity yourself,
you must find a registered UK charity prepared to accept the cheque
on your behalf.
We can't support overseas projects directly because the administrative
cost involved in keeping check on them would wipeout our entire budget!
So overseas projects need a British partner who can vouch for them
to us, and handle the administration.
